What a Strut Mount is and Why it is Important?

While a strutmount may sound like somethingsimple, it can be one of the most important parts of your vehicle’s suspensionsystem. The strut mount serves as the mounting point for the top of yourvehicle’s strut assemblies to connect to your vehicle’s chassis. If you havefour-wheel-independent suspension you vehicle will have four strut mounts, twoin the front of your vehicle and two in the rear. If you have independent frontsuspension only, there are only two strut mounts. Ideally, these should bereplaced when installing a new strut assembly, but they are usually not sold aspart of a complete strut assembly package. Signs of a loose or worn strut mountare much similar to that of other suspension problems, so determining whetherit is the strutmount or the strut assemblyitself causing a problem is not worth taking time to figure out. Typically, ifthe strut assembly is worn out, the strut mount is worn out as well and viceversa. Just remember to remove the strut assembly before you try to remove thestrut mount for your safety.
